Just east of Ilfracombe, Woolacombe Bay’s a long sweeping stretch of sand is a popular North Devon shore fishing mark. Unfortunately, Woolacombe is equally popular with swimmers and surfers as it is with anglers – particularly during the summer months.
Woolacombe is deserved of its reputation as a fishing hotspot for both Bass and Small Eyed Ray, with the bait of choice for these two species being either Peeler Crab or Sand Eel. Live sand Eel may put you among the Bass in the surf, and frozen Sand Eels work well for the Small Eyed Ray.
Fishing Woolacombe a couple of hours either side of low slack water can be productive and first and last light are considered the best time to catch from this North Devon shore fishing mark.
